When time becomes your most valuable asset..

One of the most agonizing feelings you can experience is the sudden loss of your loved one. A year and a half and counting, millions of people continue to lose their loved ones to this ruthless virus. What’s worse? Mourning for your dearest in solitude. You don’t even get a chance to give them the farewell they desired and truly deserved. Last week, my best friend’s dad passed away battling Covid-19. She did everything in her power, being a radiologist, to help her dad in his road to recovery. As the younger child in her family, she stood tall and took the responsibility of being the strength for her grieving mum and stranded brother - across the seven seas.

As a doctor, yes, she was mature and able to cope professionally with the situation. As a daughter, you could see how her heart was broken. Imagine your world changing upside down in a flash! It took two weeks for the emergence of the infection to the end of an era! TWO WEEKS!! It infuriates me every time I think of it, how many times are we going to see our friends and family losing someone they dearly love to this merciless pandemic?!

With that said, I respect her for coping with the situation the way she is. Resolute.

Meanwhile, I had checked-in on my 80 year old grandma about her well being and how she’s dealing with the pandemic. Amongst everything she said, there was one statement in particular that moved me. She said, the only reason I’m taking all the measures to not contract Covid is the financial and emotional stress that my children will have to endure during my supposed treatment. When my time comes, it should bring peace and not unrest.

The young want to try and do what’s felicitous for their elderly, and the old want nothing but a natural, conflict-free climax as an ode to their lifetime!

I truly believe that love is the greatest gift one can ever give or receive. The most fruitful way of showing love is by sharing your time with each other. Beyond all our passions, our distractions, our desires and our relentless ambitions, there’s love. Share time. Share love.

I’ll conclude with a quote I read earlier that we can all relate to. What’s more important is for us to take a moment and reflect on it.
